{Fashion Friday} Mary, Mary

Enjoying the red carpet spotlight dressing Alexa Chung, Keira Knightley, Anna Delo Russo and Solange Knowles {quite a client list?} to name but a few the wonderful Greek designer, Mary Katrantzou, revered for her boldly colourful trompe l'oeil prints, digital mastery and highly structured creations, has recently been enjoying A list success, and whats more us mere mortals who also enjoy more than a bit of designer pretty will be able to grab a piece of Mary at none other than my high street favourite Topshop.

Word has it that Mary Katrantzou's collection is stunning with the pieces being "incredible" well I guess we will have to wait to see for ourselves when the collection hits the streets in February.

Mary's signature prints will be in evidence, as well as her beautiful Pheasant Dream dress, which absolutely every girl at Topshop HQ is lusting after.

Sounds to me like flashes of colour and and a dash of style perfection = high street heaven.

I first became aware of the "Princess of Design" after viewing a specially curated exhibition,  “The Art of Fashion”, which features a spectacular retrospective installation of internationally celebrated fashion designer Mary Katrantzou’s signature looks over the past four seasons since the label’s inception and also a preview of her Autumn Winter 2011 collection, coordinated by Brown Thomas, Dublin to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the foundation of the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and I was hooked.

If you cannot wait for the high street version you can shop the collection on Net-A-Porter

have lovely weekend one and all.

{Just Lovely} Sloane Da’ling

*I make no apology for the love-in that is this blog post*

I had the great pleasure of meeting the über glam Nathalie of the fabulous Sloane Stationery a couple of weeks ago {Think India Hicks meets Karen Brady} and I fell in love, with her, her brand and her ideas..

Launching the brand in 2010, Nathalie started a new chapter in her {totally stylish} life, with the launch of Sloane Stationery, a line of handmade books and photo albums.

The idea behind Sloane Stationery is to support English craftsmen {love that concept like way way too much}, at the same time offering affordable luxury with a modern twist.

"The focus of the business lies on quality and style ‐‐ Sloane Stationery takes great pride in the production of each piece; the quality of the materials being a constant preoccupation. The craftsmen and women who manufacture Sloane Stationery items have years of experience and training."

And the end result is truly beautiful..So take a look at the ranges, My favourite is the London Mover oh so gorgeous linen covered note books, available in a rainbow of colours and you can order on line or see them in person at one of many stores Sloane is stocked in..

Perfect gifts for wedding parties these little gems can be personalised..

And finally, how I love the website its like Daily Candy meets Not on the High Street with a pinch of Vogue.

How very Sloane.

{Type of your Life} Louise Fili

Wow, wow, wow.

I stumbled over Louise doing some research over Christmas and just had to share.

How gorgeous? This website is the stuff that my dreams are made of.

So welcome and hello to Louise Fili.

In her own words...

So pretty impressive? I think so.

What I love so much about this website is the Before and After section featuring gems like this..

With a lovely explanation of design decisions, what was important and not so.

And the client list, I Swoon.

My absolute favourite...

Naturally.

I chose Tiffany for my engagement and wedding rings so will always have a huge soft spot for this legendary, what dreams are made of, brand.

You can check out Louise's blog here and her beautiful book here.

Happy Days

{Dear Miss Lily’s diary} 23rd January 2012

Its been a long cold busy month since my last post {more to come on that dear friend! but there is a pretty immense, exciting, scary, wonderful reason that there has been a distinct lack of posts, I PROMISE you that!}, anyway enough about me...what about you! what to entertain on the long wintery days and nights?

But I am BACK and here are my hot picks of what is on and in this week, just for you..

{Interiors UK}

Totally, totally gutted {family friends very sad loss} I couldn't make Interiors UK It is an excellent {trade only} exhibition running from 23rd to 25th January at the NEC in Birmingham. A wonderful showcase of all things home and is THE place to source furniture, lighting, flooring, fabrics, soft furnishings and accessories for retail from leading manufacturers and suppliers.

I would strongly suggest you try and make the time for this showpiece.

{Bright Young Things}

Following the success of 2011’s ‘Bright Young Things’ {the pioneering project by Selfridges to seek out and champion the most exciting young creators in the UK}  January 2012 sees the re-launch of the campaign on an even greater scale.

The second Bright Young Things scheme features a total of fifteen UK-based emerging talents from the worlds of fashion, art and design and food.

From 6 January 2012 until the end of February, each of the Bright Young Things will take over an Oxford Street or Duke Street window – their brief is solely to communicate the essence of their work. With one million people walking past the famous windows every week, the displays provide an incredible launch-pad for these fledgling designers to showcase their creations to the public.

The Bright Young Things’ products will be available to buy from three pop up shops in store as well as online at Selfridges.com.

{An Exhibition of Illuminated Manuscripts {from between the 9th and 16th centuries}}

Please ignore the slightly long winded title...exhibitions at the British Library are often utterly brilliant - in part due to the institution's unparalleled collection of amazing {stuff}. Highlights include Henry VIII's personal Psalter and two of the three remaining copies of Thomas Hoccleve's Regement of Princes - a guide to being an ideal courtier by the crazy bureaucrat/writer/visionary who is one of the finest and most underrated writers of the era.

{David Hockney: A Bigger Picture}

One of the first big art shows of the year opened on Saturday and it’s a great one {until 9th April 2012} at The Royal Academy of Arts.. It’s also going to be hugely popular so if you haven’t got tickets yet, book them right now (advance tickets for January and February are sold out already).

This is a big show in every sense – lots of tall, airy rooms and most of the paintings or prints are huge. Also, Hockney insisted that the RA hang every picture as high as possible so you can see the art above everyone’s heads. And that says it all – accessible and populist, it also promises to be beautiful and incredibly moving.

{and last but by no means least...}

this sounds a little bit special {ok its not this week, its the following week, but you have to book} Lost in Lace  at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, this one-day conference will draw on the themes explored in the exhibition Lost in Lace. A panel of artists, architects and scientists will consider how they have been inspired by the aesthetics, techniques and cultural associations of lace.

Have a truly wonderful week.
